1924년 프랑스 시인 초현실주의자 앙드레 브르통은 스페인 출신의 예술가 호안 미로를

이렇게 극찬할 정도로 생전에도 그는 높은 평가를 받았다.

그러나 미로 자신은 정작 어떤 ‘주의’에도 속하기를 거부했다.

그림을 시작한 화가로 현대 예술가의 제 2세대에 속한다.

초기에는 야수파의 경향이 나타나다

초현실주의 창시자인 시인 부르통, 아라공, 엘뤼아 등과 교제하면서

초현실주의로 전환하면서 초현실주의의 거장이 되었다.

 

분명히 식별되는 특이성을 성취한 20세기의 화가 중의

몇몇 소수에 지나지 않는

화가로서의 그만의 특유한 초현실주의의 세계를 보여준다.

미로의 특이성은 20세기 미술의 전개에서 없어서는 안 될

중요한 여러 특이성들 중의 하나로 여겨지며

손꼽히는 세계적인 화가로 오늘 날에 이르렀다.
